Primary care is an ideal platform to address poverty-related inequities in early language experiences. Primary care professionals have near-universal access to children, frequent visits with families, and an opportunity to build trusted relationships with parents to promote optimal child development. Reach Out and Read (ROR) is an evidence-based early childhood intervention that has capitalized on this opportunity to promote equity in children’s early language experiences at scale by encouraging parent-child shared reading.
