After a federal judge in Florida overturned requirements that passengers wear masks onboard trains bus and planes, an NJ Transit commuter is petitioning the agency to give passengers concerned about coronavirus exposure one “mask only” car per train to ride. Commuter Adam Reich said the judge’s decision and a letter from the spouse of a fellow commuter, who was concerned that ending the mask mandate on trains could expose her mother, who has underlying heath issues, to COVID-19, prompted him to start the petition. “There are a lot of people out there like her who are concerned about COVID-19 entering their household and harming a vulnerable loved one because of the new ‘mask optional’ environment on public transit,” said Reich who proposed the mask-only car earlier this year.
