Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterized by persistent impairments in social communication and interaction and the presence of restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviors, interests, or activities. Prevalence of ASD in the United States among children aged 8 years has increased from 0.4% in 1996 to 2.3% in 2018, based on reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder among children and has also increased in the past two decades from 6.1% in 1997 to 10.2% in 2016 . ADHD symptoms include pervasive inattentiveness, impulsivity, or hyperactivity that lead to impaired functioning. To read the full article.
