The COVID-19 pandemic put into sharp focus how deep health disparities run in New Jersey. Low-income, Black and brown residents experienced some of the worst health outcomes, as a recent review of the state’s response to the health crisis highlighted. At the Rutgers Health Anniversary Symposium on Wednesday, experts in research, public policy and community health addressed health inequities and how to solve them. “I think we continue to see challenges with health and equities in the state of New Jersey,” said Mary O’Dowd, the executive director of Health Systems and Population Health Integration for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. While progress is being made, O’Dowd said, “the gap between different subsets of our population persist.” To watch the video.
