The news concerned Dr. Valerie Fitzhugh. National surveys published in the fall showed Black Americans are hesitant to get the COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available to the public. At the same time, trial investigators were trying to overcome that mistrust and recruit more people of color in the studies to prove the inoculations would be safe and effective for different groups.
