Newark’s mayor imposes new restrictions as the city reaches a positivity rate of 19%.

Two weeks ago, as the coronavirus began to spread widely again in Newark, officials imposed New Jersey’s toughest new restrictions since the spring lockdown, mandating an 8 p.m. indoor closing time for all restaurants, bars and nonessential businesses citywide. But the number of new cases in Newark, the state’s largest city, kept climbing, with 842 new reported infections over the last four days.
