NFPN Community Engagement Scholars
The NFPN Community Engagement Scholars will be responsible for conducting on- and off- campus activities that support the outreach objectives of the Newark Fairmont Promise Neighborhood initiative which is coordinated by the Assistant Chancellor, OUCP. Students will be assigned to serve as mentors for area youth, who are served by community-based NFPN partner organizations/programs (e.g. Jump Start), or complete project-based assignments that help to meet community –based engagement and partnership needs (e.g. conducted surveys or research, assist professional staff during stakeholder convenings, etc.). Scholars will undergo training and be monitored by designated OUCP staff.
Duties
- Conducts scheduled mentoring or project-based assignment
- Notifies on-site coordinator of any emergencies, schedule changes, etc.
- Develops and practices mentoring activities relative to the specific program goals and curriculum.
- Executes assignments in accordance established project plans and timetables
- Adheres to policies and procedures of each agency site (e.g. punctuality, attendance, dress code, conduct with tutees, etc.)
- Attends regular mentor/Scholars’ meetings coordinated and scheduled by OUCP professional staff and Project Leader/Coordinator.
- May be asked to attend/participate/support NFPN stakeholder meeting and programs.
- Discusses and evaluates progress of tutees/mentees with program coordinator.
Supervision
Mentors are under the direct supervision of the OUCP Administrative Office but may also be assigned a site supervisor. Site visits may be conducted by the Project Leader/Coordinator throughout the year.
Special Note
All mentors /scholar must successfully pass Rutgers University’s protection of minors online training module, as well as complete a successful background check, when appropriate.
Wages
Work Study Hourly Wage (starting): $9.00/hour
