SUMMARY:Ideas Café: Research Incubator in Climate and Health
DESCRIPTION:The Rutgers Office for Research is hosting a Research Incubator in Climate and Health event at 10 a.m. on Thursday\, June 23\, 2022. \nThe Research Incubator in Climate and Health’s Ideas Café is an event intended to help faculty to make new research connections while also providing a venue to gather peer feedback on emerging research ideas in line with the incubator’s theme. Participants will present short (up to 4-minute) research talks to fellow participants in small groups\, with additional time reserved for idea exchange\, discussion\, and networking. The Ideas Café is intended to invite conversation and new collaborations among peers and will be thematically relevant to the broad areas of the incubator. \nTo participate in the Ideas Café on June 23\, faculty must complete an online registration form by June 13 (click “Register” on the event webpage to access the form). The registration form contains questions about faculty members’ research interests (with respect to the incubator’s theme) and their goals for participating in the event; responses submitted on the registration form will help with organizing participants in small groups based on their stated interests and needs. The forum will be limited to the first 50 eligible registrants. \nVirtual\nFree and open to all Rutgers faculty. Register in advance (required by June 13). DESCRIPTION:The Institute for Health\, Health Care Policy\, and Aging Research is hosting a seminar at 12 p.m. on Thursday\, June 23\, 2022\, as part of its Brown Bag Seminar Series. \n“Does Diversity Matter for Health?” \nPresented by Marcella Alsan\, Harvard Kennedy School \nMarcella Alsan is a professor of public policy at Harvard Kennedy School (John F. Kennedy School of Government). She is an applied microeconomist studying health inequality. Her recent publications include “Does Diversity Matter for Health: Experimental Evidence from Oakland” and “Tuskegee and the Health of Black Men\,” published in American Economic Review and The Quarterly Journal of Economics\, respectively\, and a series of papers on messaging during COVID-19 published in medical and public health outlets. \nAlsan received a B.A. degree from Harvard University\, a master’s in public health from Harvard School of Public Health\, an M.D. degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine\, and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard. Alsan trained at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Hiatt Global Health Equity Residency Fellowship and completed an infectious disease fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. \nFree and open to the public.
